He was born August 3, 1924 in Peoria, a son of Fred and Minnie Ziemer Swanson. He married Barbara Billman on January 28, 1953 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1998 in Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Glenna) Swanson of Peoria, Steven (Sharon) Swanson of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, Kayla, Kyle; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Thomas; one brother, Delbert (Shirley) Swanson of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
Dale attended grade school at Christ Lutheran and graduated from Manual High School.
He was proud to be a WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Sgt. In the South Pacific.
He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria where he was active on several boards and served as a Deacon and Head Usher.
Dale was an avid bowler and golfer who loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Rev. Karl Eckhoff will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria and one half hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
