William Douglas 87, was born in Uniform, Alabama August 16, 1924 to Horace McHenry Douglas and Maggie Wells.
As a Merchant Marine, Mr. Douglas visited numerous ports around the world. William then served in the US Army during WWll, and his tours included Germany and England.
Mr. Douglas and his family resided in Mobile, Alabama until 1964 where he was employed as a machinist with Brookley Air Force Base. He and his family moved to Pensacola, Florida and Mr. Douglas retired with NARF (NAS Pensacola) as a Maintenance Machinist.
Known by family and friends as Bill, he loved life and loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents Horace M. Douglas and Margaret Wells, his stepfather Vaudy Waltman, and brother, John D. Douglas.
Survivors include his daughters, Denise Bennett and husband John; Brenda Sluder and husband Johnie. 8 grandchildren: Jessica McMorris (Sean), Gabe Smith, Adam Chauvin,
Ashley Chauvin (Cornelia), Nick Chauvin, Rebecca George, John E. Sluder Jr.(Aimee), and Christy Markham (John John). 9 Great-grandchildren; Davin Smith, Isaac Smith, Giovanni McMorris, Caleb Chauvin, Malachi Chauvin, Leah Markham, Amber Markham, Haleigh Sluder and Joshua Sluder. And a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday May 31, 2012 at Oak Lawn Funeral home in Pensacola. There will also be a visitation from 1-2 PM Friday June 1, 2012 at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile AL with services starting at 2 PM. Burial to follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile AL.
