1927-2014
Sarah Josephine Massey, age 87, of Pensacola, FL, went to be with her Lord Saturday, August 23, 2014. She was born February 5, 1927 in Crossville, AL to the late Ernest Edwin Haines and Elsie Ballinger Haines.
Sarah worked as a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and making porcelain dolls. During WWII she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter," an airplane builder, her joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John William "Jack" Massey; her son, Kim Allen Massey; her grandson, Shane Massey; her sister, Jean Fowler; and brothers-in-law, Hoyt Fowler and Sid Webb.
Survivors include her children, Beverly Terpening of Panama City, FL, John (Francie) Massey of Kansas City, KS, Barbara (Jim) DeRuiter of Panama City, FL, Beth (Doug) Massey-Price of Pensacola, FL, Jerry (John) DeSha of Portales, NM, and Dana (Mark) Massey-Hill of Clovis NM; grandchildren, Rodney Terpening, Shelly McNaron, Clint McCormick, Heather Massey Petry, Erin Massey O'Rourke, John Brian Massey, Dustin Price, Kimberly Price, John Forrest DeSha, Sarah DeSha, Mattie DeSha, Alex Massey and Rhiannon Massey-Hill; 19 great grandchildren; her sisters, Jan (Bobby) Brown of Greenville, FL, Jackie Webb of Laurel Springs, NC and Jerry Hurst of Mt. Vernon, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 2 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.easterngatememorial.com.
