Mike was very active in baseball at Escambia High and excelled in several different positions.
After high school graduation, he joined the Marine Corp. where he served for 22 years. He was stationed in several different countries and did two tours in Vietnam. He was a retired GYSGT and drill instructor.
While in Trieste, Italy, Mike, along with several other Marines, were chosen as "extras" in the movie Godfather 2. He said Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, and Francis Ford Coppola were very nice and personal, and even shot pool with them.
After his military service, he moved back to Pensacola where he worked with his dad in the tractor business and later with the City of Pensacola.
He was married to Lynda Jane Vosburgh Hughes for almost 30 years and delighted in his stepchildren, Chad and Jaimee Colley.
Mike had esophageal and kidney cancer. After radiation and chemo, he was ready to give up the fight. The last six months of his life was spent reconnecting and being loved on by his family. A special thanks for Tina Lovett, and Mark and Ronda Hughes as he was cared for in the home of his brother and sister-in-law.
