Mary M. Laird, 81, passed away peacefully in the arms of her husband, Buck, and her daughter, Sherrie, at 8:40 AM on October 26, 2022 at her home in Pensacola, Florida. Mary was born to Miles and Evelyn Floyd in Excel, Alabama. She had one brother, Kenneth Douglas Floyd. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother.
After moving to Pensacola in 1958, Mary went to work for Chemstrand-Monsanto Corporation, where she met her husband, Buck Laird. They were married in 1959 and had one daughter, Sherrie Laird. Mary’s love of people led her to careers in hairstyling, school bus driving, and homemaking. Mary was devoted to her husband, daughter, sister-in-laws, a large family of nieces and nephews, and all of her friends. Mary was an encourager, who served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for many years at Olive Baptist Church. Mary was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Greeter, and Lighthouse Ministry Encourager. Mary loved her Church and her Sunday School Class and never forgot a name, but she was “Just Mary.“
The visitation will be Monday, October 31, 2022 from 10:00 am until noon at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola. The funeral service will immediately follow at noon with Dr. Jerry Passmore officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The pallbearers will be: Nathan Brooks, Tom Price, Brian Puckett, Richard L. Puckett, Nate Sebastian, and Fred Turner.
