Linda Frances White

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ann Russell Neal Calvert and Tony Huntley Calvert; brothers, Charles Calvert and Jeff Calvert; and sister, Sarah Brown.

Linda was born on July 1, 1939, in Bloomfield, Kentucky, and became a Christian at age 6. She grew up on a farm in a small country-town setting and was the last of five children. Her father died when she was not quite 3 years old, and her mother never remarried. Linda graduated from Bloomfield High School, and then received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Campbellsville University. While in college, she met Darriel, and they married two weeks after graduation, beginning their teaching careers in 1961 in Elizabethtown, KY. Their first summer as a married couple they spent working at a Jewish camp in New York, which was a wonderful experience for them.

Over the next three years, both Linda and Darriel completed their master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. In 1966 they welcomed their first child, a son, Mark, into the world. In 1971 their daughter, Rachel, was born. Both children were born in Elizabethtown, KY.

In 1973 Linda and Darriel moved to Pensacola, as Darriel was employed by Marshall Field Enterprises Educational Corporation, owner of the World Book Encyclopedia. Shortly thereafter, Linda was employed with the Santa Rosa County School District at Bagdad Elementary School. There she taught 3rd grade for more than 20 years.

Much of Linda’s life was spent at First Baptist Church Pensacola, where she and Darriel were members for 49 years. Linda sang with the First Baptist choir and travelled with them to different cities and countries. Additionally, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Choral Society. Linda loved to sing and play the piano and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband Darriel; her sister Antonia Richardson of Louisville, KY; son Mark Huntley White of Agoura, CA; daughter Rachel Lynn Alexander of Sugar Land, TX; nine grandchildren, Isaac White, Abigail White, August White, and Graham White; Gabrielle Alexander, Natalie Alexander, Adrienne Alexander, Benjamin Alexander and Vivienne Alexander.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at First Baptist Church, Pleitz Chapel on Thursday, June 02, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
