Linda Janeen Hinton, age 77, was born June 21, 1944. The second child of Sybil and Andrew Hinton, Linda entered the world during World War II while her father was off fighting with the Navy in the Pacific Theater. Sybil balanced caring for her new baby and an active toddler, waiting for him to return.
Linda was born a “blue baby”, with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. With her mom’s help, Linda forged ahead in the world. She graduated from Escambia High School, worked at the public library shelving books, saved to buy her own car, and actively participated with ARC Gateway. Linda’s favorite program was always bowling. She participated with Circle Handicappers for many years, winning numerous trophies, plaques, and certificates. When her youngest brother Dean would take her bowling, Linda hated to see him renting his shoes and ball, so she surprised him one year with his own!
For several years, Linda was a self-appointed Ambassador of Sunshine at Olive Baptist Church, greeting everyone with a smile and encouragement. “Have a great week”, she would beam. A year ago, when she joined Christian Life Church in Milton, Linda still loved to greet others. Most of all, she loved the attention and great hugs she got from Pastor Doug Holmes. Linda also had a spirit of generosity, enjoying gifting others and sharing whatever she had. She was always asking to buy things for upcoming birthdays, holidays, and new babies.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers David (Twyla) Hinton and Andy (Maureen) Hinton. Linda is survived by her sister Diane (David) Roach and brother Dean (Ginny) Hinton. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Linda’s family are celebrating her life and her homecoming with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Giovanni (John) Bellomo, Brant Thorn, Jeff Wooters, Glenn Sheffield, Schyler Sheffield, and Ron Jones.
