NOV. 12 1918 – APR. 09, 2010
Leatha Mae Helms, 91 of Pensacola ran her race, finished her course and kept the faith, and went Home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 09, 2010. Her family was waiting for her at Heaven’s Gates. She was a resident of Health Care of Pensacola.
She was born in Noma, Florida. She was a waitress and retired from Sears. She was a member of Calvary Way Full Gospel Church. She was known to her grandchildren as “Little Mama”, and to her great grandchildren as “Me Maw”. She said she wanted to grow old as a sweet mother and grandmother. And she did just that. The legacy of being a Christian Mom and teaching her family was larger than any bank account she could have left us. She sang with the “Gospelettes”, in her earlier years. She loved going for coffee with her daughters, Jerri and Nelda. She loved going fishing with her son, Tommy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. and Fannie Lou Hart; husband, Thomas Carson Helms, Sr.; son, Thomas Carson “Tommy” Helms, Jr.; grandson, Kenny Williams; son-in-law, Charles Deering; brothers, Austin, Ted, Rev. Lucine Hart and sister, Bobby Lee Odom.
She is survived by her daughters, Jerri (Bill) Williams and Nelda Deering; grandchildren, Marisa (Donnie) Bell, Scott (Angela) Deering, Danny (Carla) Deering, Chuck (Tracey) Deering, Renee (Billy) Coleman, Marc (Kelly) Helms, Chris (Crystal) Helms; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Orell (Allie) Hart and Verlon (Delores) Hart; numerous nieces and nephews.
