He grew up on the family farm with his four siblings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, in all, 22 living in the same house. This is where his love of family and his Catholic faith was rooted. He had a fulfilling 34-year career in Civil Service for the Federal Government as a firefighter, retiring in October 1988 as the Assistant Fire Chief at NAS Pensacola. He was stationed at Meridian NAS, Pensacola NAS and Rota, Spain.
Joe married Marietta Rhein in 1959, and they had three children. He was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church, joining the parish in 1974. He served on the Finance Committee and was a Eucharistic Minister. Joe was a devout Catholic who lived his life putting God and family first.
