John Haner

John (Hap) Robert Haner was born October 1, 1927 and passed away January 24, 2021 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tim Haag, where he had lived since his wife, Dora “Lucy”, died in March 2016. John was born and grew up in Hanover, PA. He earned the nickname Hap in elementary school because of his cheerful personality.

John lived a life of service. Upon graduating high school in 1945, John joined the Army serving his country during WWII overseas in Guam. Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked at Double Day Printing Company in Hanover, and returned to military service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean War. John met and married the love of his life in 1952 while stationed at Elgin Air Force Base.

John continued his life of service by joining the Pensacola Police Department in 1957. He worked for the PPD for 25 years, retiring as Captain in 1983. John committed much of his time to many service organizations. He was a long-time volunteer with the Optimist Club of Pensacola; and was very active with their Oratorical Contest and with the Christmas Tree sales. John was a Master Mason and a dedicated member of the Escambia Lodge #15 for over 40 years and the York Rite Bodies. He also served as Past Monarch of Zelica Grotto, M.O.P.R.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Blanche & Earl Trump, his beloved wife of 63 years Dora (Lucy) Williams Haner, and numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his four daughters and their husbands: Brenda (Thomas) Monigan of Ft. Walton Beach, Blanche (Tony) Myers of Milton, Denise (John) Webb of Pensacola, and Donna (Tim) Haag of Pensacola, as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the Pensacola Police Department Honor Guard

In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to Zelica Grotto or Regency Hospice.

There will be a private burial after the service.
