Jean M. Barnett, Age 92, a long time resident of Pensacola, Florida passed away, Tuesday, April 1st, 2025. Jean was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida September 3, 1932. She was a proud 1951 graduate of Walton High School. Jean met her future husband, Louis Barnett, in Paris, Texas shortly after moving there in the early 50's and they were married in 1954. They moved to Pensacola in 1957 where they eventually had two children, Donald and Julie. Jean earned her Florida Real Estate Broker License and founded her own business, Barnett-Eubanks Realty with business partner Mary Eubanks in the early 1970's. Louis and Jean retired in 2009 and moved to Daphne, Alabama to be near her daughter and granddaughters. Louis and Jean were married for 64 years when he sadly passed away on December 25th, 2018.
Jean was a serious woman of high character. Her and Mary took pride in their persistent efforts in pursuing a bank for a loan to start their business in the early 1970's without requiring signatures of their husbands. She was one of the first in the Pensacola area to recognize the importance of specialization in real estate. She and Mary specialized in property management and were highly successful in the field. Some of her professional accomplishments also include Realtor of the Year in 1988 by the Pensacola Association of Realtors and later President of the Association in 1992. She also served on many Florida Association committees. Her love and admiration for Pensacola led her to becoming a Board Member for the Escambia Pensacola Human Relations Commission which addresses Fair Housing & Employment Discrimination complaints. In the early 1990's, she helped develop a housing program for Naval Air Station Pensacola due to the arrival of the sailors on the USS Forrestal and their need for short term rental housing. She was a community leader and visionary for the city of Pensacola, and was very proud to call Pensacola her home.
Jean was most proud though of her 7 grandchildren. Chad K. Barnett, Samantha K. Barnett, Sean K. Barnett, Amelia S. Porto, Isabella R. Porto, Grant L. Orosz and Savannah F. Orosz. She was a great Oma and will be especially missed by them. Although she was a proud professional woman, her devotion, love and commitment to her husband, children and grandchildren were always her first priority.
Private family services will be held.
