Gary was born December 11, 1940 in Selma, Alabama to Alton Marvin Wright and Nonie Dixie Nabors Wright. Gary was raised with five siblings, his older brother, Sonny and four older sisters, Joyce, Sarah, Prissy and Nona.
Gary graduated from A.G. Parrish High School in 1959. He went on to receive his Bachelors of Social Science from Livingston State University in 1963. Gary continued his education at Emory University where he received his Masters of Theology in 1967. While Gary was at Emory he was a member of the Theta Pi International Honor Society.
Quite the equestrian, Gary loved horses. From the age of 11 he raised, trained and had shown horses. He owned and managed Bayside Equestrian Center, a twenty stall facility located in an upscale residential community of Milton. He was the co-owner of Mandeville Oaks Farm in Pensacola and was the owner and CEO of Brock Farms, Inc. in Milton. Gary was a member of the Central Alabama Saddle Club in Selma and was a former member of the Rodeo Cowboys’ Association. He organized and promoted Class A American Quarter Horse Association shows and was on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Quarter Horse Association. Gary enjoyed tennis, running, racquetball and of course his favorite, horses.
Gary served as a chaplain in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1972-1982. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Captain. His primary occupation was as a Methodist Minister. He was employed for over 20 years with the First United Methodist Church Alabama-West Florida Conference. During that time, he was a ministerial public speaker and trusted leader and served as the Regional Director for United Methodist Children's Home.
Throughout his 30 years of experience as a real estate broker Gary worked with various companies including, Synovus Mortgage Corporation, Adams Home, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Re/Max and Connell & Manziek. Gary also was a licensed real estate instructor with Burt Rogers for the State of Florida for 8 years. Through out his 30 years he was the recipient numerous awards and accolades.
On December 31, 1990 Gary wed his love, Peggy Levern Kendrick Harrison at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
Gary is survived by his wife of 29 years, Peggy Pierce; children, Stacey and Wendi; step-daughter Gina; his grandchildren, Jordan, Nicholas, Kyler, Maxx, Garrett, Dylan and Abby; and 10 great children.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held Saturday, May 09, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel followed by inurnment at Bayview Memorial Park’s Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.
