Mrs. Griffith was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on September 16, 1920, and was the youngest and last of the Cleveland clan - the children of Walter James Cleveland and Nellie Rivers: Daisy Stigler, Louise Kornrumpf, Hulon Cleveland, Robert "Ace" Cleveland, and Walter J. Cleveland, Jr.
Mrs. Griffith was the wife of Captain John "Jack" Griffith, retired Naval officer, who saw action in the Philippines during WWII. A high-spirited woman who easily kept up with her husband, Nell often told the story that her fiance met her brother Robert on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the Pacific. Nell thoroughly enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world with her husband while supporting his Naval career.
Their two sons, Tom and John, previously passed away, and Nell is survived by her four grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was an avid reader and traveler and had many interests, including playing bridge and golf.
