Dorothy Lee Staples

Dorothy lee Roberts Gilmore Staples service will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 10:00 am. The viewing will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 1-3 pm.

Dorothy was a loving Mother, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jacqueline Denise Burns, and her two husbands Roy Gilmore, and John Staples. Dorothy was baptized on July 1st, 1948 at the age of 26, and became a faithful member of Pleasant Baptist Church, and a devout Christian. She was born and grew up in Pleasant Grove and lived next door to her childhood home until her death.

Dorothy's interests were going to church, family, cooking, sewing, and pulling weeds in her flower beds. She loved seeing her day lilies blooming. She also went back to school in 1971, at the age of 49, and received her high school diploma. She was also a meticulous housekeeper and a wonderful cook.

She married Roy Gilmore at the age of 17 years and had her first child at 18. She became a widow soon after the birth of her first child.

She later met and married John Staples and had three more children.

The family that she leaves behind are Ruth Gilmore Common (Tim), John Mark Staples (Vicki), David Irving Staples (Mary), Jana Lauren Staples (Jack Burns). She was Grandma to 10 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.

The Pallbearers will be Mark Nunley, Foster Common, Bruce Common, Patrick Land, JD. Holmes, Travis Trent.
