He was born 1937 in Tallapoosa, Georgia the son of William A. Stephens and Vera Stephens.
Devoted husband to Janice Stephens, brother to David Stephens and Audrey Jo McGiboney. Father to Donald Stephens Jr., Dennis Stephens, David Stephens. Grandfather to Leah Scott, Dustin Stephens, Tiffany LaDouceur and Brandon Stephens and had 4 great grandchildren.
He graduated Anniston High School in Alabama with the class of 1955. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1976 from Chaminade University, Honolulu, HI graduating Magna cum laude while serving as Command Master Chief for the Pacific Fleet. MCPO Stephens served as Yeoman on Aircraft Carriers USS Coral Sea (CV-43) and USS Lexington (AVT-16). Don, retired from the United States Navy in 1986 where he served with honor and distinction for 30 years.
He was happily married to Janice Stephens for over 63 years and dearly loved his wife and family. He was a devout Christian and longtime member of Olive Baptist Church. He enjoyed walks on the beach, gardening and volunteered his time to the Fleet Reserve Association serving as president of Branch 46 and Branch 22.
Visitation will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm with Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Graveside Service will immediately follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
