Captain Dennis D. Green, Sr., USA (Ret.), died peacefully in Pensacola, Florida, on January 21, 2015 at the age of 65. Captain Green is survived by his wife, Juliana G. Green; children, Dennis D. Green, Jr., Marisa Green, Laura Green Born; siblings, William Green, Marcella Baggette, Cecilia Tomberlin, Alexander Green, Elizabeth King, Mary Francis, Loretta MacDonald; grandchildren, Cameron Enriquez, Lorenzo Castillo, Gianna Hamilton, Brandon Castillo, and Iylah Green. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Patrick Green and Donelda Bertagnolli Green, and his brothers, Joseph, Harold, and Claude of Daphne, Alabama.
Captain Green graduated from McGill High School in 1967. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and was stationed at Wiesbaden Air Force Base, Germany. In 1973, Captain Green married Juliana Gardner of Chickasaw, Alabama. He graduated from Troy University with a degree in Computer Science. Captain Green had a 35 year career in civil service as a computer programmer for the Naval Regional Data Automation Center (NARDAC) and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) at NAS Pensacola.
During his civil service for the DOD, Captain Green enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard in 1978 and subsequently the Florida Army National Guard. Captain Green rose through the ranks and became a commissioned officer first serving in the 111th Signal Battalion, Company B as the Executive Officer and then served as Commanding Officer of the 146th, Signal Brigade, Company B. Captain Green formally retired from the Florida Army National Guard in 2009 and from civil service in 2004.
Captain Green enjoyed the comradery of his friends, family and his troops. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Perdido River Hunting Club. In his later years, he enjoyed the fellowship of the members of the AMVETS Post 292.
Captain Green will have a viewing on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 3pm-5pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Rd., Pensacola, FL 32506. There will be a viewing at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral Mass on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 715 College Ave., Daphne AL, 36526. Father Mathew O’Conner will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Captain Green’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the AMVETS Post 292, 955 Dog Track Rd.
