Daniel J. “Dan” Potts of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on February 1, 2023, after battling Parkinson’s disease for many years. He was born April 16, 1949, at the Navy Hospital NAS Pensacola, Florida, behind the ten foot brick wall.
He loved crabbing, fishing, swimming, surfing and sailing the Hobi Cat while living on Innerarity Point. He graduated from Escambia High School, class of 1967, and attended PJC, earning a Bachelor’s Degree. He then joined the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman for three years. Upon discharge from the Army, he worked for the Veteran’s Administration as a Medical Lab Technician in V.A Clinics at the Hopi Indian Reservation, Keams Canyon, Arizona; the Cherokee Indian Reservation, Cherokee, North Carolina; the V.A. Clinic, Lake City, Florida; and the V.A. Clinic, Pensacola, Florida, from which he retired.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Brigette and parents, Alice C. and Lee H. Potts.
He is survived by son, Joshua Potts; siblings: sister, Jerri Lee Potts, twin brother, Donald J. “Don” Potts (Gloria), brother, Michael A. Potts, and sister, Barbara J. Holt (Tony). He is also survived by a niece, two nephews, four great nieces and a great nephew, as well as many cousins and their extended families.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made in honor of Dan to the research for a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
Services for Dan will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Florida, on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 1:30 PM. A Funeral Procession will begin at 1:00 PM at Olive Baptist Warrington Church, 103 W Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, FL, 32507.
