Charles J. Brock Sr. was born in Panama City, Florida to Bennie and Robbie Brock. The family quickly relocated to Pensacola and lived on Avery Street. The 2nd of 3 boys, he assumed the role of “Peacekeeper”.
He attended Pensacola High School before enlisting in the U.S Navy. Serving as an Aviation Electrician, he repaired planes at Saufley Field. During this time he married Peggy Joyce Oliver in February of 1958. Completing his service in the Navy, he began working in the Test Center for Southern Bell Telephone. Later, he transferred to Line Repair as a Line Repairman. He worked for many years as a “Klumsum”, a term he used to define his job as a telephone pole climber. Over time he worked his way into management and assumed the role of Line Repair Foreman. In this role, he managed jobs and crews out in the field. Eventually, he advanced into Executive Management with AT&T (post merger) and continued his specialization in the management of field repair and operations. After 32 years, he retired from AT&T and immediately went fishing.
Shortly after retirement from AT&T, he joined CRW Enterprises a telecommunication and networking company. He was part of a team that designed, installed, integrated and repaired large scale IT infrastructures. Eventually, he retired - again.
He then obtained his General Contractor’s license and began Brock’s Construction. He built a small business that provided building repair and handyman services. Often to the elderly or families in the Pensacola community that were in need. Many of these services were offered at cost or in-kind.
“Julian” and Peggy began a family in the mid 60’s. They raised a daughter, Karen and a son, Chuck in Cantonment, Florida.
Julian was preceded in death by his father Bennie Lingo Brock, Sr., mother, Robbie Head Cooper; stepfather, Henry Cooper; brother, Bennie (Bud) Lingo Brock, Jr.; brother, Ireland Lee Brock; and stepbrother, Chester Cooper.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Brock; daughter, Karen Baker (William Baker, Jr.); son, Charles Julian Brock Jr. (Dawn Baker Brock); grandchildren, Sarah Baker, Bill Baker III, Samantha Baker (Dawn Baker Brock), Camilla Brock and Macy Brock; sisters-in-law, Joyce Brock, Gloria Brock Farris and Mary Ross; brother-in-law, Dan Ross. This also includes many cousins, nieces, nephews, “extended’ family members, friends and colleagues.
Julian was an avid outdoorsman, athlete and car enthusiast (drag racing) in his youth. He often shared camping, the outdoors and fish fries with his family. He enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing his entire life. Julian loved God and Country and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church since 1958.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 28th, 2023 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Visitation, 10am - Service, 11am
