Carol Ann Mackey, daughter of John Dee Mackey and Juanita Georgia Carty passed away surrounded by her children on October 24, 2021. Born in Jackson, MO, Carol traveled the world as a military wife and settled in Pensacola, FL and later in Omaha, NE.
As a young child, Carol recognized her calling and devoted herself to helping others, first as a registered nurse (RN) and later as a nurse practitioner. Her absolute joy was being part of the emergency room team in Pensacola, Florida where she worked into her 70's. The ability to save lives and be part of the amazing teams at Baptist, Navy, Sacred Heart and others filled her soul.
Carol Mackey was an active member of Cokesbury Methodist Church, and her friends in her church community helped her transition to retired life.
Survived by her loving children, Sydney R Goodwin (Adam), Matthew R Decker (Lucy) and John F Decker (Liz). Amazing grandchildren, Samuel Decker, Kyndall Mackey Goodwin, Caroline Decker, Natalie Decker, David Goodwin, Lauren Decker, Mary Mackey Decker, Dennie Decker, Christina Decker, John Decker Jr, and Peter Decker (Texas Pete). Carol is also survived by special friends and family, Butch and Penny Wilcox, Lonnie Wilcox, Kurt Wilcox, Sarah and Monte Clark, John Torbit, Renee Gallagher, Carol and Bob Chavez, Carol (Hacker) Gilmore, Pam Freeman, Jean Cornell, Gene and Sandra Pettis, June Williams, Betty Bones and many others. Our mother is preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgia Mackey, her sister Jeanie Wilcox, dear friends Palmer and Ruby Hacker and many others.
Our mother passed away after visiting our Mt Rushmore monument….and left this earth with a heart full of hope, faith in our country, and her children by her side.
A private ceremony will be held in Pensacola, Florida at a later date.
