Anita Davis English, 88, passed away Monday night, September 19, 2016, after a brief illness. As she loved being during her life, she was surrounded by her family for her last days on earth. Anita (Mama, Gma, Grandma) was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Truman English (Daddy), and has now had a happy reunion with him in heaven. Grandma loved family and friends gatherings, parties, laughter, conversations at the supper table (where she had served thousands of meals), travel with family, grandkids, and anything to do with family gatherings. In her earlier days she and Daddy (Grandpa) played golf, traveled throughout the U.S. & Canada in their camper, traveled internationally, organized family gatherings, square danced and loved to inspire the family to gather and have fun. Grandma was known to lead Conga lines at her grandkids’ weddings. To summarize a life in a paragraph is impossible but Mama will always be remembered by family for good times and fun… as well as the best cook around. She will be missed but her spirit will be carried on in her kids and grandkids – and future generations.
Anita was born in Davisville, Florida, on February, 13, 1928, to Clayton E. Davis and Emmie P. Bray Davis. She went to Walnut Hill High School and married Truman on September 11, 1945. Anita and Truman had three children; Michael D. English (Lois), Frances E. Wright, and Marsha E. Morrison (Jim). They had seven grandchildren; Keith English (Josie) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Lori English Kutner of Raleigh, NC, Cory Rouse (Leigh) of Los Angeles, CA, Hilary Cartwright (Stephen) of Kountze, TX, Luke Edge of Pensacola, FL, Will Morrison of Tallahassee, FL, and Ben Morrison of Tallahassee, FL. They have ten great-grandkids, for now.
The visitation will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home (619 N. New Warrington Rd., Pensacola, FL) at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 22, 2016, with the funeral following at 11:00. Rev. John Pavlus of New Beginnings Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Light in the World Ministries (3018 Creole Drive, Pensacola, FL 32526) or Covenant Hospice (10075 Hillview Drive, Pensacola, FL 32514).
Arrangements under the direction of Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL.
