She grew up in Penn Yan, NY and graduated from St. Michael’s School and Penn Yan Academy. She worked as a secretary at Carrier Corp. of Syracuse, NY, Cornell Extension in Rochester, Home Bureau and the Finger Lakes Travel. Then for 14 years she worked for the Yates County Sheriff’s Office until her retirement. She was an involved parishioner at St. Michael’s and for many years active in the Catholic Daughters at St. Michael’s. She was predeceased by her husband, David J. Curtiss of Penn Yan and Oklahoma City.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons, Rev. Don Curtiss of Clifton Springs and Edward Curtiss (Theresa Deering Curtiss) of South Burlington, VT and by two sisters in laws, Mary Miller of Costa Rica and Cholena Eaton of Penn Yan and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm on Wednesday, May 30 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 31st at 11am at St. Michael’s Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY.
