Cliff was born in Hall, NY on December 21, 1928, the son of the late, Christian and Alma (Nelson) Peterson. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952. Cliff retired from American Can Co. in Geneva after 30 years of service. He was also a long time farmer. He was a member of the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Assoc., the John Deere 2 Cylinder Club, the Johnson-Costello American Legion Post #355, and the Penn Yan VFW Post #755. In addition to his parents, Cliff was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Covert and his K-9 companion, Jake.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara (Tones) Peterson; his children, Cynthia Ann Johnson (Greg), Chris A. Peterson (Penny), Nancy J. Peterson, Janice M. Folts (Richard), and Clifford D. Peterson (Donna); his grandchildren, Sarah Garren (Greg), Carrie Spelman, Jim Peterson (Kim), Robert Peterson, Christopher Sparks (Janean), Carrie Vils (Timothy), Kelly Wells (Michael), Karen Folts, Vanessa Watkins (Kyle), Erica Peterson, and Lee Peterson; great grandchildren, Andrew Garren, Steven and Justin Spelman, Zachary, Kaitlyn, and Jenna Vils, and Morgan and Brandon Wells; his sister, Elsie Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call from 1 to 3 pm on Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. His funeral service will follow at 3pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Marilyn Wood officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at City Hill Cemetery.
