William “Bill” Cloud died peacefully on June 13, 2018 in Pell City, Alabama at the age of 78, after an extended illness.
Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kaye Cloud of Pell City, AL; three sons, Blaine Cloud of Atlanta, GA (Shannon), Derron Cloud of Glenwood Springs, CO (Mary), and Bret Cloud of Birmingham, AL (Stephanie); six grandchildren and one loyal dog, Cloudy. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Velma Cloud, and one brother, Robert “Bob” Cloud.
Bill was born on June 12, 1940, in Knoxville, TN. He graduated fom Castle Heights Military Academy in 1958, and from the University of Tennessee in 1962, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He received his MBA from Michigan State University in 1964. Bill married Kaye Cloud, nee Devane, in 1969, and after moving to Pell City in 1974, he started Cloud Enterprises, d/b/a Cloud’s Cubberd, a chain of convenience stores located across Alabama.
Over his life, Bill’s interests and notable accomplishments included by were not limited to: selection to the United States Coast Guard’s Coastal Forces in 1965, being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, coaching his sons baseball teams, playing tennis, traveling , avidly supporting the University of Tennessee’s athletic programs, visiting friends and church members at times of need, and inserting much-needed humor at (mostly) the right time. He was an active and dedicated member of the Pell City First United Methodist Church.
There will be a visitation time with the family and friends at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th with a memorial service scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Pell City First United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. The family would like to thank St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital for their efforts and care.
