A glorious day when Mildred Allred Glidewell, born July 13, 1929, took her place in that great cloud of witnesses on February 15, 2022. Mildred’s life revolved around her faith, her family and her heart for nursing. She loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly. A celebration of life service will be at Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Lincoln United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jeff Ponder-Twardy officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 am and celebration of life service will be at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Lincoln Cemetery.
Mildred, the beautiful cheerleader and handsome football player Horace Eugene Glidewell, Jr. met at Lincoln High School. They lived in Lincoln, celebrated 50 years of marriage and raised their family. Horace went on to eternity in 1999. She is also preceded in death by her parents Marshall Sisby and Jenny Lynn Allred.
She enjoyed the times she gathered with her siblings Emma (Boyd), Charlie, Clyde “Andy” (Ila “Boots”), Virginia, Francis (Jean), John (Pat), Nancy, Dorothy (Jim) and David (Cindy) for lunch, dinner or to celebrate a holiday or birthday. Mildred is preceded in death by her brothers Charlie, Andy, Francis and John.
Mildred and Horace raised and loved four daughters, Marsha (Bobby), Kathy (Tony), Cindy, and Tracy. Lots of laughter and good food created precious moments and lasting memories for them and for grandchildren, Kim, Chad (Amber), Tonya (Michael), Jeanna (Toyston), Anna (Eric), Abby (Robbie), Kristy (Jonathan), Jamie (Joe), Cordell (Kristen), and Ivy.
Great grands welcomed to the family are Callyn, Cooper, Crew, Hollie (Wesley), Lake (Nathaly), Mea, Tori (Ben), Hayden, Zackary, Jackson, Nixon, Ella Kate, Brodie, Ayden, Skyler, Gavin, Carrington, Lilah Kate, Madison (Casey), Kynslee, Logan, Wyatt, Carter and Grant. They have brought much joy and laughter to the lives of this family.
Everyone loved being with Memaw and hearing stories of Pepaw.
As the years passed the family grew and generations were added totaling five generations. Additional joy came from great, great grands Maverick, Brexley and Hadley Jo.
The heart of a servant evident in a life-long nursing career. After studying nursing at South Highland School of Nursing, she graduated as a Registered Nurse and began a career she loved and identified as her life’s calling, as she took care of patients at Citizens Hospital in Talladega, AL and ABC Home Health Care her entire career. She walked alongside many during her 92 years loving unconditionally, helping, and nurturing.
An active member of Lincoln United Methodist Church, following and serving her Lord a lifetime.
Pall bearers are grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Chad, Cordell, Michael, Toyston, Eric, Robbie, Jonathan and Joe.
