ASHVILLE - Johnnie Harrison Tidwell died July 22, 2018, at his Ashville home of 61 years following many strokes, cancer, and heart attacks. He was 93 years old. A native of Sheffield, Alabama, Mr. Tidwell was the son of Levi Harrison Tidwell and Ludie Mae Fountain Tidwell, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters, Hattie Ryan, Mac Giddens, Louise Kent, Ruby Martinelli, Paul Tidwell, Lascoe Tidwell, Roy Tidwell, Walter Tidwell and Hermon Tidwell Mr. Tidwell was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 17 and spent his life thereafter preaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom. He was an expert carpenter and independent business owner. As a longtime resident of Ashville and minister, Mr. Tidwell personally visited over 80% of the homes in St. Clair and Blount Counties with the message that Jehovah’s Kingdom is the answer to all of mankind’s problems.
Mr. Tidwell is survived by his wife of 71 years, Doris Jean Lett Tidwell, whom he married on February 3, 1947. Mr. Tidwell is survived by his daughter, Deborrah Jean Tidwell Davidson (Wayne), his son, J. Demarrah Tidwell (Donna), both of Ashville, Alabama; grandchildren, Angela Davidson, Sonja Brownlee, Nicole Shaver, Danielle McKim; as well as his great-grandchildren, Courtney Brownlee, Savannah Ray, Tristan Ray, Brooklyn Fowler.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
