Florence Odessia Compton

Funeral services for Miss Florence Odessia Compton will be Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel with interment in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Miss Compton died September 7, 2022.

Miss Compton was preceded in death by her parents: Rev. and Mrs. Virgil Compton; sisters: Mattie Lois Compton and Clara Mae Compton; and sisters-in-law: Betty Compton and Jean Compton.

Florence is survived by her brothers: R. A. Compton and James Compton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She attended Avondale Mills School seven years and graduated from Pell City High school in 1943. After graduating, she worked in the mercantile industry for 44 years as a bookkeeper. She was a life-long member of the Pell City Bible Methodist Church. Duties performed for the Wesleyan and Bible Methodist church were: treasurer for 54 years, Sunday school teacher, served on many boards and ladies missionary society. Some of her favorite hobbies were: visiting friends and neighbors, fishing in her younger years and walking the town; and her favorite meal was fried frog legs. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was very faithful to her church.

Florence O. Compton to most known as “Auntie Florence” will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Pell City Bible Methodist Church.
