William Dee Powell was born on September 17, 1935, to Lola Harris and Dee Powell in Lockhart, Texas. Dee received his education at Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas. He was a member of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama, for over 20 years.
Dee was married to Diane DuBoise on May 29, 1958, in Lockhart, Texas. They had one son, Kavan, and one daughter, Elise. Dee served as a captain and a pilot in the United States Air Force. He coached college football at both Texas A & M and the University of Alabama.
Dee Powell was one of the Junction Boys from Texas A & M and played for and then coached for Paul Bear Bryant as part of the national championship teams. After he ended his coaching career, he worked in development for both Alabama and Auburn University. His last position was assistant vice president of development at Auburn, where he raised millions of dollars for the new library on campus.
Dee was preceded in death by his mother and father, three sisters, and his son. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane; his daughter and son-in-law, Elise and Keith Belcher; his granddaughters, Alexandra Belcher and Courtney Isaac; his grandson-in-law, Steve Isaac; and his great-grandson, Jameson Isaac. He is also survived by two sisters, Lynda and Dea, along with a sister-in-law, Mari DuBoise.
Visitation will be held at Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 2 until 3 in the afternoon. A funeral service will immediately follow in the sanctuary at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for immediate family.
