"Brother Tommy" graduated from Quincy High School, and earned his Masters in Theology from Liberty University.
He married Barbara C. Johnson on December 22, 1961.
Tommy was ordained into ministry in November 1973, and faithfully served at several Cumberland Presbyterian churches in the Southeastern United States throughout his career. He retired from Helena Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Helena, Alabama after more than 30 years of service.
He loved our first responders and proudly served as a chaplain with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department as well as the Helena Police Department.
His favorite pastimes included spending time with Barbara and their family, watching Alabama Crimson Tide football, and playing golf.
Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Burke Johnson; his father, Walton Norman Johnson; and his brother, J.E. Johnson.
Survivors include Tommy's wife, Barbara C. Johnson; his daughters, Tammy L. Lax (Greg) and Rachel R. Key (Phillip); his son, Thomas W. Johnson (Janet); his grandchildren, Brandon A. Johnson, Grant R. Lax, Zachary Thomas Johnson, Falak Khan, Hannah L. Johnson, Kathryn M. Key, and Patrick N. Key; three great-grandchildren, Ronan, Asher, and Reyaan; one brother, Ellis “Buddy” Norman Johnson (Laverne); and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Helena Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Helena, Alabama, immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Brother Tommy at 7 p.m. at the church. The private gravesite committal service will be at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
