Susan “Sue” Bramble Murphy, age 68, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Tuesday May 30, 2023. Her life will be celebrated with a funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.

Susan was born September 6, 1954, in New London, Connecticut to Malcolm and Betty Bramble. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in 1976 and received her master’s degree from the University of Montevallo, Alabama in 1993. On December 28, 1974, she married William Murphy.
Susan was a beloved kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School and an accomplished author of books and articles. For 32 years, she had a regular column in The Over the Mountain Journal called “Murphy’s Law,” where she enjoyed sharing her view of the world with a smart and funny tone.
Susan loved to travel and spend time with her family. She was the kind of person that every child and dog would walk right up to as if they had known each other their whole lives.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and supportive and fun Grandma.
She encouraged us all to be kind, forgive each other, focus on what matters, and be thankful.
Sue is survived by her two daughters, Katie and Shannon; grandchildren, Jackson, Madison, Abigail, and Ethan; and her sister, Donna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her parents, Malcolm and Betty Bramble.
