Robert “Bob” Alexander Simpson was born on August 15, 1948, to William “Bill” Alexander Bruce and Mildred Simpson in Patterson, NJ. Having been born and raised in New Jersey, his ideal day was relaxing on the Jersey Shore. In childhood, he was an avid wrestler and Eagle Scout. He received his degree in Occupational Therapy from Hunter College in New York City and worked as an occupational therapist for over 40 years until he retired. He loved music, especially Bruce Springsteen and The Grateful Dead. He loved Car Talk on NPR, jogging, tennis, the New York Giants, and Alabama Football. To honor his father and brother, who were both veterans, he volunteered with the Krulak Marine Alliance of Alabama. He adored animals, especially his cats Goldie and Purdi, and his dog, Rona. He is survived by his partner of over seventeen years, Robin Schafer, his four daughters: Erica Simpson, Rachel Simpson, Alexandra “Ali” Simpson Farrukh, and Tara Simpson, and his four grandsons: Kyle, Liam, Aiden, and Yunus, and his sister-in-law, Laurie Simpson. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: William “Bill” Frank Simpson and Bruce Simpson.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
