Richard graduated from West End High School in Birmingham and from Howard College (now Samford University) with the Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management in 1959. He was married to the former Gayle Hays of Montgomery, AL on August 31, 1963.
Richard never met a stranger and always had a word of advice. He was a friend to all, but his favorite roles were husband, father, Granddaddy, and son. He was employed in many capacities over the years in sales and in many financial capacities in the automobile business, the insurance business, and lastly, as a handy man, before he retired.
Richard was a member of Bluff Park Baptist Church, the Alabama Air National Guard, and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was an active alumnus of the West End High School Class of January 1955, and he enjoyed Alabama football, Lake Martin, puzzles, problem-solving, a great Southern-cooked meal, and watching his grandchildren perform and compete.
He was a very wise man who never hesitated to deeply and thoroughly consider a problem or issue brought to him before he responded with Godly advice.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Albert L. Sadler and Dono Ree Sadler, and his wife, Gayle Hays Sadler. Survivors include Richard and Gayle's three daughters, Kathy Davis (Dave) of Hoover, Karyl Sellers (Gary) of Madison, AL, and Kristi Blackwell (Eddie) of Hoover; and seven grandchildren, Elliott, Griffin, and Darcy Davis, Nona Sellers, and Abby, Hays, and Logan Blackwell.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by the 7 p.m. Memorial Celebration of Richard's Life in Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. The private graveside service and burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Tony Barber will officiate.
Memorial gifts may be made to Bluff Park Baptist Church, 2211 McGwier Drive, Birmingham, AL 35226.
