Ralph Douglas “Doug” Harvel, of Alabaster, AL, went to be with the Lord at the age of 68. He was born in Bessemer, AL on December 16, 1951. Doug graduated from West End High School in 1970. Upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force and was extremely proud to serve his country. He was stationed in Pusan, South Korea where he met the love of his life, Kimberly Ann Harvel. They were married April 22, 1974. Doug was a faithful charter member at Westwood Baptist Church where he played church softball and served in many ways. He had a passion for watching Alabama football, traveling on cruises, and listening to classic rock music.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph Junior Harvel and Betty Irea Fields. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 46 years, Kimberly Ann Harvel, his daughters, Michelle Harvel Harper (Kevin), Andrea Harvel Holsomback (Jason), and four precious grandchildren, Jackson Douglas Holsomback, Anderson “Webb” Harper, Ann Ellis Harper, and Grady Martin Holsomback. His grandchildren brought him so much pride and joy. He lived a full and wonderful life with his family and will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 pm. A private family interment will be at a later date at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in memory of Doug Harvel to Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, AL.
