Peggy Jacques Roberts, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 11, 2018 following a brief illness. She was born April 1, 1936 in Memphis, TN to George and Lois (Sanders) Jacques. She was a 1954 graduate of Treadwell High School and was a member of the Rainbow Girls. Peggy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family and friends, dancing, shopping and world travel. She was quick-witted, full of life and kept us laughing even in her final days.
She grew up in Memphis, TN with loving, hard working parents and one precious sister “NORMA JEAN” whom she adored. Peggy was spoiled by her parents and sister. Her sister worked at a dress shop and would often buy dresses for her which probably is to blame for her extensive wardrobe collection. At a young age, she was sick with Rheumatic fever and her mom would bring her dogs new puppies and place them on the bed with her while she battled her illness. We believe that this is what sparked her passion and love of dogs. Peggy’s love for dogs continued throughout her life as she would end up owing over 20 dogs in her lifetime.
After the passing of her late husband in 2002, she joined a grief sharing group at Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, AL. This is where she met a fellow widower, Larry Cambron. They enjoyed activities with the grief share group and became great friends. Larry is a retiree of Alabama Power and travels with an exploration group from the power company. He asked Peggy to go to Europe and that began their world travels. They traveled to over 20 different countries and many states in the US. (Ireland, Australia, Hawaii, Italy, Colorado, Scotland, Austria, Germany just to name a few)
She frequently visited Helena to spend time with family until finally making it her home 2 years ago. During her many visits here she would join her family at Helena UMC on Sundays for worship and watch the numerous musicals in which they participated. She attended many events at the church including Mother Daughter Banquet and Beth Moore trip. The friendships she made while at Helena UMC were what always made her feel at home.
She leaves behind and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Karen (Jim) McKinley, son, Jay (Darla) Reeves, grandchildren Meredith (Scott) Burdette, Courtney (Josh) Verner, Ryan (Donna) Reeves, Josh (Brittany) Reeves and Jayson Reeves, her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Corbin and Chloe Burdette, James David and Gracie Reeves, Rilynn Reeves, loving brother -in - law, William F. Rodgers Jr (Uncle Bill); nieces Russelle Low, Robin (Ron) Rittiner, great-niece Elise (Ryan) Low Edwardson, cousins, extended family, friends and her beloved long haired dachshund. Bella (affectionately called Tiny Dog by Larry).
The family will receive friends from 11a.m until her service begins at 12p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Helena United Methodist Church, 2035 County Road 58, Helena, AL 35080. Graveside will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, AL.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Two by Two Animal Rescue at PO Box 708 Helena, AL 35022 or the charity of your choosing.
