A Mobile, Alabama native, Mr. Smith was the youngest agent in the Washington, D.C. office of the FBI and then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1947. He married Carolyn Meadows and they had four children who survive him: Dr. Logan Smith, Amanda Smith Vinson (Bennie), Louisa Smith, and Dalton Smith (Stephanie).
Mr. Smith is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Patricia Smith (Lawrence), Meridith Collari (Ed), Kaleigh Stokes (Grant), Rachael Smith, Rachel Truss (Wiley), Hope Vinson, Lauren Hall (Matt), Leigh Anne Gilbert, Elise Gilbert, Arden McCullough, Laura Cavan Smith, Holden Smith, Sadler Smith, Granger Smith, Enloe Smith, Coe Smith; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosemary Meadows Barker.
Mr. Smith worked as an attorney at Martin, Turner & McWhorter that later became Balch & Bingham. He then became manager of the Land Department for Alabama Power Company, and eventually Vice-President of the company.
Mr. Smith was also a builder who built many homes and apartment houses in Jefferson County, Alabama.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Highway 119 in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, followed by interment at the adjoining cemetery.
