Mary Jo Borgini Nicastro, 93, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, at her residence in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe C. and Mary Taglioli Orazine; husbands, William Borgini, Sr., and Vincent J. Nicastro; her beloved son, Bill James Borgini, and cousins, Lucretia Anderton and Ronnie Tagliola.
She attended schools in Gadsden and Birmingham. In Gadsden, she worked at The Gadsden Times, and returned to Birmingham after her marriage to William Borgini, Sr. She was employed by the City of Birmingham in the Finance Department, and later with the Fire Chief's Department until retirement. She volunteered at a number of organizations and Senior Groups, which she enjoyed.
Mrs. Nicastro is survived by many nieces and nephews. Phillip and Marilyn Mangina; Anthony and Stephanie Mangina; William and Denise Mangina; Liz Borgini Cooney (John); and Michael Borgini (Jennifer). Cousins, Clay Taglioli (Sharon) of Savannah, GA.; Debbie Rausch (Eric); and Bobby Thompson (Jeanne) of Arizona.
She was a founding member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL at 2:00 PM.
The family wishes to thank her long-time caregiver, Ginger Copeland, for her loving care and support the past four years. Also, Cayla Moore, her other caregiver for the past year. We also thank the staff and sitters from Always There In-Home Services for their kindness and comfort to Mary Jo. We cannot forget the wonderful love of the nurses from Comfort Care/Aveanna Hospice.
