She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 3, 1928. Martha graduated from Ensley High School where she was known as “Sunshine”. She worked at the Air Force Base while living in Shreveport, Louisiana where her husband was stationed. After moving back to Birmingham and raising their family, she worked at Samford University, Social Security and Shades Mountain Independent Church until retirement. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Hoover.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Bernice Scarvey, and her husband of 71 years, Jasper Sullivan. She is survived by her three children, Pam Collum (Bob), Mark Sullivan (Brenda) and Brenda George (Robert); six granddaughters, Jennifer Schleger (Michael), Kristin Collum (Ryan), Nicole Ivey, Mary McDonald (Wade), Brett Driver (Wes) and Megan Brown (Justin) and ten great-grandchildren.
The family thanks Annette Hutcherson and Claire Butler for their compassion and care during the last month.
Visitation will be Friday, November 4th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with her service to follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be afterwards at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoover First Baptist or a charity of your choice.
