Peggy was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 24, 1929, and later attended attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She enjoyed a long and successful career as housewife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Peggy was married to Lynn R. Perry for 71 years. He passed away last summer on July 10, 2022. He was 94.
Lynn was a football star during his years at Lakewood High School in Cleveland. His military enlistment in the U.S. Navy included service on the U.S.S. Portsmouth and the U.S.S. Wisconsin. After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended Ohio State University. He had a very successful career of 60 years in the steel industry.
Peggy and Lynn were members of Inverness Country Club since the time they moved to the Birmingham area in 1979. She was very involved in ladies' golf at Inverness over the years. Both she and Lynn enjoyed many friendships through the club.
In addition to Lynn, Peggy was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Sample. Survivors include two sons, Doug (spouse, Susan) of Houston, Texas and Steve (spouse, Nancy) of Huntersville, North Carolina; one son-in-law, Jeff Sample; grandchildren, Sydney and Brandon Dambach, Scott and Heather Sample, Ryan and Catherine Perry, and Molly and Jonathon Surran; six great-grandchildren.
The memorial service for both Peggy and Lynn will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at South Highland Presbyterian Church, Birmingham. Peggy and Lynn will be inurned at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo following the 2:45 p.m. service there on September 8, 2023.
