Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. The Revs. Steve Kilpatrick and Robert Etheridge will officiate.
Lily was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 18, 1934. She graduated from Crozier Technical High School, Dallas in 1952. She enjoyed a career in banking and completed many banking courses before retiring as a bank teller from AmSouth Bank in Alabaster.
Lily was involved in Christian education as a teacher at Calvary Christian Academy in Alabaster from 1974 to 1980. She was very active in children’s church ministries, serving as a Sunday school teacher and bus captain. Currently, she was an active member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Helena, Alabama.
Lily is survived by her husband, the Rev. Robert Etheridge of Alabaster; mother, Lillie Hinton of Alba, Texas; two sons, Greg and Paul (Lisa) Etheridge of Alabaster; two daughters, Laurie Mattox (Jay) of Birmingham, Alabama and Elaine McLemore (Wayland) of Carthage, Texas; a brother, Thomas Kent (Lottie) of Dallas; a sister, Elwanda Cosby (Curtis) of Alba; seven granddaughters, Suzanne and Julianne Mattox, Bekah Etheridge, Casey and Jill McLemore, Rachel and Reagan Etheridge; and two grandsons, Eddie Etheridge and Shane McLemore.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.
