Larry was born in Tallassee, Alabama on May 17, 1955. He graduated from Auburn University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. On June 7, 1975, Larry married the love of his life, Cynthia Harrison, and their union would be blessed with three children. He retired from Southern Company Services as a licensed civil engineer in construction. Larry worked as a project manager at Mitchell Dam, Walter Bolden Dam, and Martin Dam. He also was an instructor teaching civil courses such as concrete, earthwork masonry, and many others. Larry was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pelham. He was a lifetime Deacon and served as the chairman of the building committee for Phase I and Phase II of construction. Larry also served as a trustee for the church and taught Sunday school.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Barbara Smith; grandparents, Howard and Ruth Carroll; and his sisters, Teresa Pack and Beverly Self.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 48 years, Cynthia Smith; his three children, Jeremy Smith, Austin Smith (Alyson), and Leah Allen (John); along with five grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Grayson Smith, Easton Smith, John David Allen, and John Brantley Smith.
Funeral services for Larry will take place at First Baptist Church of Pelham on Monday, December 4, 2023, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am and funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.
