Kenneth Burke McMahan

Kenneth Burke McMahan, 64, of Helena, Alabama, finished his earthly race in the early morning hours of February 1, 2022. A devoted follower of Christ, a dedicated husband, and a loving father, Ken leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his wife, Jan, and their daughter, Jordan. He is also survived by brother David McMahan (Linda) and sister Martha Hogan (Randy). Ken will also be mourned by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Franklin (Frank) Burke McMahan, his mother, Carolyn Hardin McMahan, and his brother, Jack McMahan.

Born December 7, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama, Ken lived most of his life in the Magic City. He graduated Mountain Brook High School in 1974 and attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He transferred to Auburn University, where he graduated with a degree in criminal justice.

Ken served his community as a police officer for the City of Birmingham before shifting his criminal justice skills to bank fraud investigation, finishing his career at Regions Bank. He was a member of the United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees), and a past president of the Birmingham Jaycees. He was also a USJCI Senator, the highest honor that can be awarded to any member, past or present, for outstanding service to the organization.

Ken was a true "Auburn man," living the words of the Auburn Creed by "doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly" with his God. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pelham, Alabama, where he used his voice in praise as a choir member before health issues prevented him from doing so.

Ken McMahan was everything good and decent. Those character traits are scarce in today’s world, but he had them in abundance. The way he lived his life will inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him to live for Christ, to serve others, and to have a sense of humor about themselves and the world around them.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pelham. His family will receive friends there at 1 p.m.
