

Kenneth Richard Langford, age 81, of Pelham, Alabama passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. He was born October 15, 1940 in Hedley, Texas to Mary Evelyn Everette Langford and Alfred Kenneth Langford.
Family and friends will remember Richard for his warm and genuinely kind personality, and for generously and selflessly pouring his life into theirs. At gatherings with family and friends and at several local festivals, he often entertained by playing bluegrass music on his guitar.
Soon after graduating from Clovis High School in New Mexico in 1959, Richard served three years in the Army National Guard. He completed his undergraduate education on a full football scholarship at Eastern New Mexico University, where he was a four-year football letterman and founding grandmaster and president of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1964.
Richard's professional career, mostly in the computer systems field, spanned 48 years. After two years as an accountant with Shell Oil, he became employed with General Electric as a computer software developer and later worked with Sperry-Univac as a systems analyst, Associated Grocers as director of data processing and later as assistant general manager for operations, Tymshare Banking Systems as general manager banking systems and later as Southeast regional vice president, McDonnell Douglas Banking Systems as president, Information Technology, The Langford Search, and Strategic Business Systems.
Richard was predeceased by his parents; one son, Lowell Ray Spence Jr.; and one sister, Carolyn Ruth Langford Stroud.
Survivors include Richard's wife of 43 years, Ann Shugart Langford; his children, Kimberly Langford Wiginton (Mike), Kenneth Richard Langford Jr. (Michele), Gregory Lane Spence (Cari Langston), Nicholas Ryan Spence Langford (Emily), and Jacob Thomas Spence Langford; grandchildren, Nicole Marie Langford, Samuel Richard McDaniel, Natalie Grace Langford, and Rachel Kate Wiginton; step-mother, Doris; one sister, Myra Langford Mitchell (Mike); a brother, Mike Langford (Pat); as well as multiple aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The visitation will be immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Richard Langford at 11 a.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
