Karen Runels Grammer, age 57, of Pelham Alabama, passed away on August 15, 2023, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Karen was born in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Fultondale High School and attended Jefferson State Community College. During 36 years of marriage, she lived and worked in Tupelo, Mississippi, Trussville, Alabama, Pike Road, Alabama, and Pelham, and raised two sons of whom she was extremely proud. She had recently been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren and was able to experience the joy of their smiles and hugs.
Karen loved nature and animals, especially her many dogs and cats over the years. She loved the sunny beach and enjoyed walks in the sand by the shore. She also enjoyed exploring new cities and was fascinated by the beauty and architecture of early American churches and buildings. Her smile brightened every room she entered, and she dearly loved and cared for her family and friends.
Karen is survived by her husband, Carl; sons, Alex (wife Stephanie and grandchildren Ira and Amelia) and Casey (wife Ansley and grandson Cooper); parents, Janice and Charles E. Runels, Sr.; brother, Charles E. Runels, Jr.; and sister, Deborah Hester.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew by the Sea Church in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Breast Cancer Research or Pet Adoption Charity of your choice.
