Karen graduated from West End High School and attended Jefferson State Community College. She was married to Donald E. Battle on December 19, 1970. She devoted the remaining 53 years of her life to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, faithfully raising her daughter and two sons, and proudly watching her grandchildren grow.
Karen worked for years at Shades Crest and Hunter Street Baptist churches, taking care of children in the Mothers Day Out program. She was a member of Shades Crest Baptist and attended Hunter Street Baptist in recent years.
She loved everything about the beach. In her leisure, she enjoyed being in the ocean with her family and watching her kids and grandkids swim. At home, she helped all of her grandkids learn to swim in her family's backyard pool. She was an avid traveler, often with Donald on trips to England, Germany, France, Japan, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, Las Vegas, Wyoming, and Alaska. Her favorite travel destination was Hawaii.
Karen was predeceased by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Bedsole; her father, Tommy Hillman Jones; and her daughter, Kristen Battle Sanders. She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Donald E. Battle Jr. (Amelia) and Brian J. Battle (Amanda); six grandchildren, Anna Green, Zachary Green, Max Battle, Avery Battle, Jacob Elliott, and Ava Elliott; and two sisters, Sandra Pearson and Brenda Reid.
Karen fought a good fight and is no longer in pain. Her family and friends are celebrating that she is now in Heaven with her daughter Kristen. They both will truly be missed.
