He was born in Alabaster, Alabama on July 24, 1960, and attended Shelby Academy, Helena Elementary, and Pelham High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was the recipient of the Army Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Jerry went on to study at Jefferson State Community College and was an electrician by trade. He was employed with J.L. McDaniel, BellSouth, Reeve Electric, and Jones Lang LaSalle.
Jerry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved history, watching baseball and football, and sitting on the front porch swing.
Jerry is preceded in death by three grandchildren; his siblings, Peggy Joyce Owens, Gelene Redmon, David Owens, and Kenneth Owens; and his niece, Brooke Owens.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Jena Evanko (Chris) and Jamie Owens; and his grandson, Wes Evanko. He is also survived by Bryan Redmon, Barry Redmon, Lane Cooner, Shaun Owens, Chris Owens, Brandon Owens, Lesley Irvin, Justin Redmon, Julia Redmon, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Alabama on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at noon. A committal service with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
