Clyde Ray Estes, 94, of Orange Beach, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, September 10, 2022 with his wife, a son, and daughter-in-law by his side. He was born in Dawson, Dekalb County, Alabama on July 18, 1928 to Irby and Ada Estes.
Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949, serving at Haneda Air Base in Japan during The Korean Conflict. He received numerous medals before his Honorable Discharge in 1953.
Clyde had a long career with the U.S. Department of Defense as a Publication Authorization Specialist. He retired at the age of 55 in 1983.
Clyde’s love for life was infectious. Throughout his life, he enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, flowers, all kinds of puzzles, and an afternoon drink of Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Nell Haynes, to whom he was married on January 1, 1980; five children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A casual farewell service will held Sunday, September 18, 2022 beginning with 1 p.m. visitation at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, followed by a graveside eulogy at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
