Carol Jean Nix

Carol Jean Kreider Nix, born on March 1, 1928, to James T. Kreider and Zona Mims Kreider in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on December 16th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Bill) Nix, her parents, and her three older siblings: Edna Earl Kreider Baggett, Jimmie Kreider Turner, and Donald Kreider.

Jean graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1946, where she was a varsity cheerleader, a member of the softball team, and recognized as a class beauty. A devoted member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, she found strength and community in her faith.

Jean married William (Bill) Nix on June 27, 1947, and they shared over 56 years of love and companionship until his passing in 2004. Together, they raised a loving family, and Jean is survived by her children: Vicki Nix Burke and William Dean Nix (Lee); grandchildren: Rachel Burke, Julie Burke, Catherine Burke Phillips (Robert), Billy Nix (Anne), Liza Nix Davis (Charlie), and Carolyne Nix Kontomitras (Alexander); as well as nine great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

Jean was deeply cherished by her family. She was the matriarch who exemplified kindness, grace, and unwavering support. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry her love and memory forward.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Stanford Senior Services, Peggi Ward, Amberly Maske, and Becky Livingston for their care and support. We also want to acknowledge Cassie Wilson, whose devotion and friendship have been a blessing to Jean and the family for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20th, at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 5521 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242. Visitation and a luncheon will follow the service. A private burial will take place at Bold Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
