He was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on January 30, 1954. Brian graduated from Homewood High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Electronics from Alabama College of Technology. He was married to Abbie Carol Daugherty and later to Mary Grace McCord. He married Abbie on Sep 20, 1975 and Mary on January 25, 2002.
Brian had a varied working career. He started out as an Electronics Technician working over 20 years with several computer and software companies. During this period he always used his skills to help his friends gain computer literacy. Later in life he started a home remodeling business to help his old and new friends all over the country with home improvement projects. During the last three years his passion to help others led him to the American Red Cross where he became a Disaster Team Volunteer and Disaster Assessment Supervisor. He was recently recognized by the American Red Cross for spending over 8000 hours helping people when they were most vulnerable.
Brian loved traveling, fishing, and working on vintage cars and his red Camaro, “Babe”. Brian did not have hobbies - he had passions!
He is survived by his sister Carole Shaw Tatum of Lawrenceville, GA and many friends in the United States and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Mary Shaw; brothers, Norman and David Shaw; his first wife Abbie of Birmingham AL; his son Arthur Daugherty Shaw (Artie); and his second wife Mary Grace of Homewood, AL.
A graveside service will be held on June 12, 2021 10:00 AM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
