Anthony F. "Tony" Dalesandro, went to be with the Lord, December 26, 2021. Tony grew up in the small town of, Gary, West Virginia. He was born August 21, 1937 to the late, Sebastiano and Filomena (Casullo) Dalesandro. Tony attended Elbert Elementary, Gary Junior High, and Gary High school in Gary, West Virginia. He also attended McDowell County Vocational School in Welch, West Virginia and was a certified welder.
In 1956, Tony graduated Gary High School and began working his first job at US Steel Corp. He worked as an apprentice in the electrical departments repairing and rebuilding large electric motors. During the Eisenhower recession, Tony was inducted into the Army. He attended microwave radio and carrier school in Fort Monmouth, NJ for nine months. Once he finished school, he began journeying from the Statue of Liberty across the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and up the English Channel to the Port of Bremerhaven, Germany. His final tour was to Munich in the Bavarian Alps. His duty was to supply communication for United States Army Europe (USAREUR), North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). He once competed with 30 other soldiers winning Soldier of The Month with special privileges and was changed for earlier promotion. During Tony’s tour of duty, he had the opportunity to visit 10 countries.
After Tony was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962, he began working Vetro Electronics as a test technician and was promoted to Quality Control Technician. He assisted on building the ground tracking equipment and consoles for NASA APOLLO project. He also worked at Datronics in Falls Church, VA. He traveled throughout the country measuring ground conductive for the U.S. Government. While at Datronics, Tony was assigned to a project to build and install radiation sensors for the Air and Water Board of New York City.
In 1967 he met the love of his life, Helen Pigott, “Ms. Claire” as he’d like to call her, in Washington, DC. The two were married in 1968 and their union was blessed with two daughters, Amy Elaine and Elizabeth Anne. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing Bridge with close friends, and watching Alabama football. Also, he loved serving St. Peter Catholic church where he was member for over 48 years. He was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for the past 35 years and an active member in the Human Concern Committee, Italian Club and the Knights of Columbus. Tony was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed serving the community with his loyalty to God and Country.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Amy Elaine McCarty (Kevin) and Elizabeth Anne Robson (Kevin); grandchildren, William Jackson and Isabella Grace McCarty, Parker Matthew, Patrick William and Townes Patton Robson; his sister, Anna Prasatek and many nieces and nephews.
