Born May 2, 1940 in Pekin to Russell and Helen (Penning) Counterman, he married Marjorie Hundt on January 18, 1958 in Pekin.They were happily married for 64 years. She died on May 28, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas E. Counterman; one grandson, Steven W. Munter and five siblings, Robert, James, Lois, Sharon and Virginia.
Surviving are four children, Rusty A. Counterman, Bret Counterman, Kristina M. Lynn Counterman and Randall (Maria) Counterman, all of Pekin; four grandchildren, Holly, Farren, Caitlynn and Austin; eight great-grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Braedon, Hannah, Taylor, Connor, Riley and Emily and one brother, Danny (Josephine) Counterman of Kansas.
Wayne worked as a machinist and later in proof design for Caterpillar, Inc. for over 30 years, retiring in 1990. He later worked for Elm Grove Township for 20 years.
He was a member and served as governor for the Pekin Moose Family Center #916 from 1971 to 1972 and again from 1980 to 1981. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 in Pekin.
Wayne enjoyed fishing in Missouri with his wife and brothers, restoring hit and miss engines, tractors and his Jeep. He also enjoyed collecting antique cars and machinery.
There will be no services at this time. A private inurnment will be held for Marjorie and Wayne at Glendale Memorial Garden in Pekin.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
