Born September 12, 1951 in Pekin to Dewey Jefferson and Betty Charlene (Simcox) Wilson, he married Gail Leigh Meyer on October 28, 2006 in Forest City. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Judy McKinney of Bloomington, Gina (Tom) Oest of Manito and Bob (Shelly) McKinney of Pekin; three grandchildren, Kelsey (Brandon) McKinney Tyler of Chicago, Jake (Cassie Wertzler) Oest of Morton and Jared Oest of Manito; one sister, Bonnie (Daniel) Peplow of Manito, one brother-in-law, David Henninger of Manito; one nephew, Cary (Carrie) Peplow of Tremont and two great nephews, Nick (Megan) Peplow of Manito and Nate (McKayla) Peplow of Mackinaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Michael Dean Wilson; one sister, Christy Sue Henninger; one nephew, Michael Henninger and two nieces, Mary Beth Peplow and Heather Henninger.
Steve was a retired member of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin, where he worked out of for many years.
Steve was passionate about hunting and fishing. He loved taking his grandsons hunting at the family farm.
He also was a master of keeping a meticulously manicured lawn. Steve didn’t know a stranger and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.
A memorial visitation celebrating Steve’s life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Cremation has been accorded and no service is planned.
